Jan. 16: New on HuffPost: Hollande: Why those who 'play away' always get found out

It's not so much President Francois Hollande's sexual indiscretions that have been 'found out', argues Simpol's founder John Bunzl in his latest article on the Huffington Post, but the impracticality, in a global market, of his left-wing policies. Are our national politicians free to choose their political agenda? Or must they now follow only a market-friendly agenda whether they (and we) like it or not?

Oct. 9 2012: Simpol short-listed for Global+5 award

"Which innovative projects and ideas could have the biggest global impact 5 years from now?" That's the challenge of the Global+5 awards organised by The Global Journal, a magazine specialising in global governance issues. Simpol was among 21 short-listed projects judged by a jury including former Prime Minister of Greece, George Papandreou, Pascal Lamy, Director General of the WTO, and David Held of Durham University.

Unfortunately, neither Simpol nor any other global governance proposals were selected for an award as the judges seemed to prefer humanitarian or scientific projects. But both George Papandreou and another judge, Karin Hagemann, a top management consultant with KPMG, both personally felt Simpol offered a very innovative solution to the central dilemma facing today's politicians: the impossible task of reconciling democracy and social and economic justice with the need to keep their national economies internationally competitive.

Brussels fears "industrial massacre"

The Daily Telegraph reports EU industry commissioner, Mr Antonio Tajani, warning that Europe's quixotic dash for renewables is pushing electricity costs to untenable levels, leaving Europe struggling to compete as America's shale revolution cuts US natural gas prices by 80%. "I am in favour of a green agenda, but we can't be religious about this," he said. "We have to stop pretending, because we can't sacrifice Europe's industry for climate goals that are not realistic, and are not being enforced worldwide".

Simpol comments: Those fighting climate change need to realise that their key enemy is not so much carbon emissions, but each nation's need to maintain its international competitiveness!

That's why it's time to Support Simpol

New Simpol book: Global Domestic Politics

Simpol's founder John Bunzl's new book Global Domestic Politics - A citizen's guide to running a diverse planet has just been published. How, it asks, can coherent governance be brought to our culturally and politically diverse planet? By taking a world-centric perspective on global problems and governance, John explains why Simpol is a unique and genuinely world-centric solution.

"This work," comments the prominent American philosopher Ken Wilber, "moves the global governance conversation forward considerably. John addresses the central issues concerning how global governance can be achieved even when only 5% of the global population is at Integral". More.

Bunzl reviews 'Sail on, oh ship of state'

Sail on, oh ship of state, a compilation of essays that defends national independence and self-determination in the face of globalisation and our greater interconnectedness, has been reviewed by Simpol's founder, John Bunzl. Most essayists seemed not to see that greater global cooperation would actually enhance, rather than curtail, the ability of nations to deal with today's global problems.

New Book: The New Prophets of Capital

Nicole Aschoff's new book, The New Prophets of Capital, is certainly worth a read, says Simpol's founder, John Bunzl. As environmental degradation, inequality, and increasing alienation push capitalism against its own contradictions, myth-making has become central to sustaining our economic system. Enter the new prophets of capital: Sheryl Sandberg touting the capitalist work ethic as the antidote to gender inequality; John Mackey promising that free markets will heal the planet; Oprah Winfrey urging us to find solutions to poverty and alienation within ourselves; and Bill and Melinda Gates offering the generosity of the 1 percent as the answer to a persistent, systemic inequality. The new prophets of capital only serve to buttress an exploitative system, even as the cracks grow more visible.

Simpol international partner, Ethical Markets, has launched its Green Transition Scoreboard report.  The scoreboard tracks private investments growing the green economy since 2007 on a worldwide basis.

A great TEDx presentation about the vital need for just the kind of culture of cooperation that Simpol expresses and can help us achieve.
